Templates for Letters to Collections and Credit Bureaus
READ FIRST: Below you’ll find the dispute letters you can use to start disputing with the credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and Transunion). Be sure to start with the dispute letter that states that the information is “inaccurate.” You do NOT want to state that the account is not yours (unless it really isn’t yours) in the first round of disputes. (You can do this later on in another round of disputes if it doesn’t come off right away.)
Also, be sure to send PHYSICAL letters to the bureaus and DO NOT dispute online (it’s much less effective and almost NEVER works). I recommend visiting 1001fonts.com to change the fonts in the letters to look like handwriting. (Only use handwriting fonts on letters to the credit bureaus.) Be sure the font is LEGIBLE before printing and mailing your letters.
Do NOT use your complete legal signature…just use INITIALS when signing ANY letter (to the bureaus and ESPECIALLY to your creditors and collection agencies) unless otherwise specified on the letter.
Finally, whenever sending credit bureau disputes, ALWAYS include a copy of your VALID driver’s license, state ID, or passport AND two (2) utility bills (preferred) or other bills showing YOUR NAME and YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS. DO NOT SEND THIS TO CREDITORS OR COLLECTION AGENCIES…ONLY SEND THESE ITEMS WITH YOUR DISPUTE LETTERS TO THE CREDIT REPORTING BUREAUS (EXPERIAN, EQUIFAX, TRANSUNION). You don’t want your creditors having your personal stuff.
Regarding ALL letters provided below, be sure to REMOVE the brackets when replacing the sections with the information indicated. Brackets look like this: { } or [ ]. Leaving these brackets on any letter looks unprofessional and could be the cause of your letter being kicked back, not taken seriously, or resulting in failed communication.
